MIKC www.mikc.eu asked me if I wanted to participate in the project PLACES: 30 artists were invited to make a table, an ‘artist’s table’. How or what: we were completely free, as long as the table was no larger than 80 x 80 cm. I had also made tables for an earlier exhibition in De Bewaerschole.

I feel like I have to apologize a bit for the fact that I also like to do something with text, want to give explanations. I don’t think that really belongs in visual art. But because I’m not a real artist, of course, I don’t have to worry about that. So yes, I made a table and there is a story to go with it.

When I cycle to my office on Monday, August 4, 2025, I see two small chairs in the garbage. On the Bilderdijkkade, on the corner of the Kinkerstraat. Amsterdam.

I drive by, but I decide to go back to take a closer look.

The brown chair still looks sturdy, the white chair has been outside for too long, in all weathers. On the backrest is painted: LOLA, 03 08 2010.

A day after Lola turned 15, her chair ended up in the garbage. Did Lola celebrate her birthday and then decide to part with the chair she put up as a little girl? And who owns that brown chair? Why does it seem almost unused?

A warm, partly cloudy day with an average temperature of 17.2 °C.
