Lemmings is the title of a script
for a documentary which I wrote in 2000 about my classmates of
the Filmacademie (the Dutch Film school), period 1968 - 1972.
It had to become a film about expectations, about the recklesness of youth, and about what has happened to us all, after all those years.
But Lemmings could not be made.
The Dutch Film Fund and all Dutch public broadcasters rejected
the project. It is too private, no one will be interested, they
At least it can not be made in the way it was written down. My classmate and beloved René plays a part in it, and he is dead. I only have tapes with his voice on it.
When I wrote this website text in 2003, my conclusion was that maybe that could even help me to make the film I wanted: a film about how we all stroll around for some time on this planet, with hope and expectations, and finally will leave.
In a way WISTFUL WILDERNESS, my
final film on Tiengemeten, has become that film I wanted to make.
